Multipliers in online slots are a player’s best friend. Why? Because they can significantly increase your winnings, turning a modest win into a spectacular one. 

Multipliers drop onto the reels or appear on specific symbols and can increase your win by anything from 2x up to 100x or more. 

Below, I talk you through everything you need to know about multipliers in online slots. First up, the different types of multipliers you might come across. 

Common types of multipliers in online slots:

Standard Multipliers – these apply to any win during regular gameplay. For example, if you land a winning combo with a 3x multiplier, your payout will be tripled. 

Wild Multipliers – these are associated with Wild symbols and multiply the win involving the wild by the amount stated on the multiplier. 

Bonus Round Multipliers – these are active during bonus features such as free spins and often come with higher multiplier values than those that appear in the base game. 

Progressive Multipliers – these increase incrementally with each win and appear mostly in bonus rounds where consecutive wins boost the multiplier. 

Scatter Multipliers – these apply a multiplier to the total bet amount or win amount from a specific bonus feature that has been triggered by a scatter symbol. 

Now you know the different types of multipliers that can appear in online slots, let’s take a look at how they impact the gameplay. 

How multipliers add value to the slot game:

An example of a multiplier slot win: 

You spin the reels and strike a winning combo to receive a spin win of £1. But forming that win combo is a 10x multiplier symbol. This means your £1 spin win is multiplied by 10, giving you a total win of £10. 

In some cases, more than one multiplier can land in a single spin. If this does happen, the multipliers are added together before being applied to the total win. 

So continuing with the example above, your spin win combo includes three multipliers of 10x, 3x and 2x. This means your £1 spin win will be multiplied by 15x (10x + 3x + 2x = 15x) so your total win becomes £15. 

What you can do to help multipliers land:

Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do to increase the chance of a multiplier triggering because landing multipliers depends on the specific rules of the slot game. 

In most cases, multipliers are triggered randomly or as part of a special feature, such as during free spins or bonus rounds. Players do not need to perform any specific action to activate multipliers, as their appearance is governed by the game’s random number generator (RNG). 

However, choosing games known for frequent multipliers or those with generous bonus features can increase the likelihood of encountering them.
